This debut novel is an interesting eco-thriller about an impending water crisis that sees a shady private consortium of agenda-driven American corporate billionaires plotting to pipe water from northern Quebec into the dry n' drought-ridden US. With further collusion from shadowy politicians & officials, everyone is unconcerned that the consequences of the massive water-grab will spell enviro-disaster for the province - and even murder will not be ruled out to protect the secrecy of the multibillion dollar scheme. Fighting back are disparate groups of Canadian activists, a disillusioned tell-all exec, a campaigning feisty Brit journalist, computer hackers & 3 rogue cops. Rife with greed, heroism, love, hate, clashing loyalties & mortal risk, all the maverick players (reluctant & ruthless alike) square off in a deadly game of intrigue full of double-bluff where unaccountable global conglomerates hide their misdeeds/illegalities in tainted tactics, shell companies & myriad money trails. And they are only matched by opposing common bonds of solidarity, demonstration & justice through cross-border co-operation to stop the larceny of the corrupt controlling of commodity. Whether existentially torn or cut-throat, everyone in the action is sprawled across urban, rural, city & wilderness - even reaching as far as Mexico, Portugal & Belgium(!) As we currently deal with whistleblowers, criminals in business suits, radical protesters & sketchy law enforcement in this era of scarcity, the choice between greed n' humanity involving our natural resources decides the fate of millions of people for decades to come.

Another sharp eco-thriller set 50yrs into a very grim future where just barely into the 21st century, climate control has become a reality but only the rich West can afford to buy the technology from the sinister, giant energy corporations that hold the exclusive monopoly on the systems. The rest of the globe struggles to cope with ever-worsening climate conditions as rising sea levels & widespread flooding uproots countless refugees from inundated countries, forcing them all to take to the sea in whatever vessels they can find & thus fasten them together to form vast floating islands (hmm, strikingly similar in partial premise to the Kevin Costner movie 'Waterworld'). These makeshift enviro-mariners now unrecognized by any nation & kept from landfall by the world's navies, scrounge for a precarious n' miserable existence adrift in the South Atlantic until a human rights lawyer takes up their cause but fate is about to deal a cruel blow for as he attempts to argue for justice before the initimidating international courts, the preparation of his case is upstaged by manufactured mother nature; a pre-emption by the earth itselfs' upheaval as the planet continues to display its disturbing symptoms such as devastating volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, earthquakes, heatwaves, storms, drought, mud-slides, deep-freeze blizzards, hurricanes & massive tsunamis. With global warming now a nightmarish scenario & horrifying geophysical reality (further triggered by the greed of the weather-management companies, squabbling experts & disruptive forces), the survivors here & the very last existence of mankind is threatened. With today's sci-fi background flanked by uneasy drama & murky politics, there's an ultimately urgent timely/urgent message here (thankfully free of preaching) skilffully intermeshing how the planetary peril of dangerous meddling & seeking solutions is a ticking clock of doom.
